Pho King Restaurant sits comfortably in Oakland’s lively 18th Street corridor, offering a straightforward spot for those craving authentic Vietnamese flavors without fuss. This is a full-service Vietnamese restaurant where the emphasis is clearly on delivering solid, hearty bowls of pho and a variety of classic dishes that locals and visitors alike can appreciate throughout the day.

Inside, the atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, marked by friendly staff who pay attention without hovering—making it a relaxed place whether you're coming in solo for a quick lunch or gathering with friends for a no-frills dinner. The vibe is casual with a neighborhood feel, fitting well into this diverse stretch of East Oakland that attracts an eclectic crowd craving both comfort and authenticity.

The menu casts a wide net across Vietnamese favorites—pho with several beef combinations is the centerpiece here, including options like eye of round steak, soft tendon, and tripe, catering to those who prefer more complex textures in their soup. Alongside the pho, dishes like vermicelli bowls and bun bo hue showcase the balance of fresh herbs and savory broths typical of the cuisine. Egg rolls and fresh spring rolls provide lighter bites that work well as starters or snacks, particularly when paired with their flavorful dipping sauces.

Practical touches such as offering both rice and egg noodles expand the appeal for varying tastes. Portion sizes are solid enough to satisfy a hungry appetite without leaving much of a dent in your wallet, which makes this a go-to spot for quick lunches or casual dinners. The broth leans a bit towards a richer, slightly oily texture, which some may find comforting, while others might notice a sweeter or more licorice-forward flavor profile, likely due to the star anise seasoning.

Parking convenience, even on busier weekend days, adds to its accessibility, making it easier to swing in without the hassle often associated with popular dining spots. For those visiting, arriving midday or early evening can help avoid the short waits that build up during peak hours.

This is a place well-suited for folks who appreciate straightforward Vietnamese cooking done well and a low-key atmosphere that centers on good food and friendly service rather than flashy decor or elaborate presentations. Regulars return not just for the food but also for the community feel that comes through in the staff’s attentiveness and the reliable consistency of the dishes.

A great spot to get a quick bite to eat that is t too expensive as well. They have good portion sizes and the broth in the soups in not bad, a little oily but not bad at all. I like the option that they have egg noodles, and i would like a little more meat but that’s just preference. If you haven’t tried this place give it a go.

Pretty good overall. I appreciated that it was easy to pull up and park here, even on a weekend. Portion sizes were solid; really loved the vermicelli bowl. The pho was solid, but might have had a bit too star anise in the seasoning for me, since it tasted a tad more licorice-y than I usually see. A sweeter broth, less complex in flavor. Still pretty good though- I loved the texture and bounciness of the banh pho, had a great chew to them.

Some friends told me about this Pho King place, so I decided to try it out for myself. From the time I entered the Pho King Restaurant, I was greeted by smiling faces. Every Pho King employee was attentive to my needs from the time I was seated, to the presentation of the check. I’m definitely a Pho King fan, and planning on returning soon!
